Belarra respalda a la candidata de Podemos en Valencia como la más destacada, tras apoyar a Ribó (Compromís) con el respaldo de Díaz.

Ione Belarra, the General Secretary of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, has come out in defense of Pilar Lima as the best candidate for the city of Valencia, despite Second Vice President Yolanda Diaz publicly calling for support for the city’s current mayor and leader of Compromís, Joan Ribó. During a media briefing in Toledo, Belarra said that Lima, «a deaf and queer woman,» had received hate speech from Pablo Motos, one of the country’s leading journalists. Belarra believes Lima’s courage is essential for Valencia, which still has major transformations to make and to face them from May 28 onwards. Diaz’s position contradicts Belarra’s stance, as she publicly called for Ribó to stay in his position as Valencia’s mayor while Lima was present. Diaz made the call for votes to be concentrated in Unidas Podemos (UP) for the Presidency of the Valencian Generalitat. After the statement by the Minister of Labour, Lima opted to leave an event organized by the Citizen-Port Commission without facing the media, while Lara Máñez, the number two on the electoral list of the confederal space and representative of IU, attended and explained that Lima had to attend another event. The Lima candidacy later stated that the call for Ribó to remain as mayor with the support of the rest of the progressive forces implies voting for and entering Unides Podem in the Valencia City Council as a condition of possibility for that to happen.
